A college built to raise scholars
Azharul Uloom College of Islamic and Linguistic Studies is run by the Azharul Uloom Charitable Trust at Chalakkal, near Aluva, in the Ernakulam district of Kerala.
Azharul Uloom was founded in 1990 with a clear purpose: to nurture multilingual scholars who can lead, and through them to spread knowledge, renew the community and strengthen society as a whole.
The college was shaped by a circle of knowledge-loving social workers led by the eminent scholar Dr. Mohiaddin Alwaye. Its declared aim is to give the new generation a complete, modern and forward-looking higher education on the model of the great Islamic universities and colleges of the world.
A historic mission
The mission of the prophets continues through scholars. When learned scholars are absent, knowledge is misused and a community loses its cultural bearings. Azharul Uloom grew from the conviction that central Kerala needed an Islamic college of real stature, one that would raise capable scholars to lead the community in an age when knowledge is growing in every field.
To become an international Arabic university where any subject can be studied through Arabic, and a bridge of language and civilisation between India and the world.
To graduate scholars grounded in the Islamic sciences and Arabic, fluent in several languages, skilled in modern disciplines and ready to serve society.

Toward an international Arabic university
Azhar aims to grow into an international Arabic university where students can study any subject through the medium of Arabic, from the sciences and commerce to technology, media and the humanities. Azhar believes the world still lacks a university of this kind.
Every programme the college builds today, from the integrated degrees to the planned Academy for Foreign Languages and the research centre, is a step toward that goal.
Inclusive by conviction
Azhar does not promote sectarianism in Islam and is known for its inclusivity. The college teaches the shared heritage of Islamic scholarship, welcomes students from every background and encourages respectful dialogue across schools of thought and faiths. This is the path its founder walked, who spent his later years bringing Muslim groups together and taking part in interfaith dialogue.
